STATEMENT BY DFS SUPERINTENDENT MARIA T. VULLO REGARDING THE NAIC ADOPTION OF THE INSURANCE DATA SECURITY MODEL LAW

"New York has stepped into the void and has taken decisive action in leading the nation in protecting the financial services industry and the consumers it serves from the threat of cyber-attacks. With these attacks on the rise – and without a comprehensive federal cybersecurity regime – the Department of Financial Services (DFS) issued its final first-in-the-nation Cybersecurity regulation earlier this year which became effective March 1, 2017. DFS applauds the NAIC for recognizing the need for a national uniform cybersecurity standard for the insurance industry modeled on New York’s trailblazing risk assessment-based approach."
