Circular Letter NO. 2 (1986)
WITHDRAWN
TO: ALL AUTHORIZED INSURERS WRITING BUSINESS IN NEW YORK STATE
SUBJECT: ASSISTANCE INSURANCE DEPARTMENT NEEDS IN DISASTER SITUATIONS IN ORDER TO DETERMINE AGGREGATE AMOUNT AND NUMBER OF INSURED LOSSES IN A SPECIFIC GEOGRAPHIC AREA
When a serious emergency or disaster situation occurs in New York State the Insurance Department is requested to promptly provide the amount and extent of insured damage information to the State Emergency Management Office (SEMO). This information is relayed to the Governor's Office for purposes of requesting a Federal disaster declaration.
All licensed carriers are, therefore, requested to assist the 411 Department in calculating the amount and extent of insured damage in a geographic area due to a fortuitous event, (i.e., flood, earth- quake, windstorm).
The corporate officer responsible for the internal department to resolve complaints as required by Regulation 64, Part 216.4 (c) will be requested, after an event, to supply to the Consumer Services Bureau, by telephone, the company's estimated total number of losses and total aggregate amount of loss in a given geographic area due to a catastrophic occurrence.
The carrier may designate a different corporate officer for this purpose. Kindly acknowledge receipt of this letter by providing the name of the corporate officer, phone number and address of same, to Mr. Nathan Silver, Chief of the Consumer Services Bureau, 160 West Broadway, New York, NY 10013.
Very truly yours,
[SIGNATURE]
James P. Corcoran
