Superintendent of Insurance Eric R. Dinallo today announced that the Insurance Department will hold a public hearing in Manhattan as part of the Department’s review of a rate increase application filed by Atlantis Health Plan, Inc. (“Atlantis”). Atlantis has asked that the increases, affecting approximately 3,360 Healthy New York, direct pay HMO and HMO point of service members in the counties of Bronx, Kings, New York, Queens, and Richmond, become effective on July 1, 2009.
The rate increases by line of business are:
- HMO and POS Direct Pay - 10.38%
- Healthy NY - 10.38%
These increases DO NOT affect small and large group policyholders.
The Superintendent has the right to disapprove the requested adjustment if he finds that the requested premiums are excessive, inadequate or unfairly discriminatory. In addition, the Superintendent has the right to establish a modified rate and to approve rates either higher or lower than the rate requested in the application.
