REAL ESTATE FINANCE DIVISION
ACADEMIC INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY
Bureau/Location: REAL ESTATE FINANCE DIVISION/NEW YORK CITY
REFD was created in direct response to the disastrous real estate market collapse that negatively affected almost every New York State resident. It was observed that as a result of lax regulation, illegal and unethical marketplace manipulations took place where mortgage fraud, consumer abuse, and excessive capital market risks were allowed to proliferate without transparency, proper disclosure or meaningful oversight. As a result, the Real Estate Finance Division is responsible for regulating all real estate and homeowner issues, ranging from mortgage origination and servicing to title and mortgage insurance to the foreclosure crisis.
Qualifications: Law students preferred, but we are open to working with undergraduate students as well. REFD is looking for candidates with a high level of research, writing, and communication skills.
Duties:
- Aid in development of website content aimed at consumer education by researching particular mortgage and foreclosure related issues and reporting findings.
- Draft and send letters to lending institutions and consumers who file formal complaints about their mortgage lenders and/or servicers.
- Assist in various research and writing projects as the need arises.
LOCATION: New York City
